Lack of progress on Energy Efficiency in Russian Federation
In the latest state report on energy conservation and energy efficiency in the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economy states: over the past ten years, the energy intensity of GDP has decreased by only 9%, and over the past four years it has not decreased. All progress in reducing energy intensity was achieved in 2000–2008 due to structural changes in favor of less energy intensive types of economic activity. “In 2018, by 2007, the energy intensity of GDP decreased by 12%, although the 2008 presidential decree demanded that it be reduced by at least 40% by 2020. “If the average rate of decline in energy intensity of GDP for 2007-2018 is maintained at 1.1% per year, it will only be possible to reach the target value of 40% by 2043,” the ministry concludes.
